Modelling portfolios and digitals agencies can use.

Whether you're signed or preparing your first modeling agency submission, the job is the same. Show them exactly who walks through the door, then show them your range. I've photographed model portfolios and comp cards in Winnipeg for over a decade, and these sessions are built around what agencies actually ask for.

Every image you choose comes two ways. As a digital, colour corrected only with no retouching, because agencies want to see your real skin and shape. And retouched to agency standard: blemish removal, colour correction and crop. You still look like you.

For actors

Actor headshots a casting director can trust.

A casting director should recognize you the moment you walk in. That's the whole job of an actor headshot. We talk first about the roles you're actually being called in for, then I light and direct for those, from commercial warmth to something heavier for film and theatre.

Every image you choose also comes as a colour-corrected digital, for the agents and casting calls that ask for them. We shoot three-quarter and full-length frames too when you need them.

How a session works

You don't need to know how to pose. That part is mine.

Most people who sit down in front of my camera tell me the same thing first: they don't like how they look in photos. Here's how we fix that.

  1. Before you arrive

    A week out I send notes on what to bring, how many looks, and how to prepare. Bring your looks pressed and on hangers.

  2. We talk first

    Five minutes on what your images need to do: modelling or acting, signed or submitting, commercial or editorial. That decides how I light and direct you.

  3. I direct every frame

    Where your weight goes, what your hands do, what your face is doing. Breathe out on the frame and follow along. You're not performing.

  4. You choose before you leave

    We review everything on the large studio monitor and you pick your images. If none of them is the one, we reshoot at no charge.

Every image you choose comes two ways: retouched to agency standard (blemish removal, colour correction and crop), and as a digital that is colour corrected only, the way agencies want them. Extra images are $65 each. A $50 deposit holds your time and comes off your session total. The balance is due on the day of your session.

Good questions

What models and actors ask before they book.

What's the difference between digitals and a portfolio?
Digitals are simple, unretouched photos that show an agency exactly what you look like today: plain clothes, minimal makeup, front, profile, three-quarter and full length. A portfolio shows your range across looks and styling. Agencies want both, so every image you choose comes as a colour-corrected digital and as a retouched portfolio image.
Do modelling agencies want retouched photos?
Very light retouching at most. Agencies want to see your real skin and your actual shape. Your digitals are colour corrected only. Your retouched images get blemish removal, colour correction and crop, the standard agencies ask for, so you still look exactly like you when you walk in.
I'm new to modelling. Which session should I book?
Start with the Portfolio session. An hour and four looks gives you a solid first book: ten images, each retouched and as a colour-corrected digital, which is what most agencies want to see from new faces. The Refresh session is built for talent who already have a portfolio and need to update it.
Can I get more images than my session includes?
Yes. You choose your images on the studio monitor, and any extras are $65 each, retouched and as a colour-corrected digital like the rest. If you love a lot of frames from a Refresh or Portfolio session, you can also move up to the next session on the day and pay only the difference.
Do I need to be signed with an agency first?
No. Plenty of people book to prepare their first modeling agency submission or build a comp card. If you are signed, tell me which agency when you book so I can shoot to what they ask for.
How many looks should I bring?
Bring one more look than your session includes, and we'll decide together what works once you're here. Solid colours and fitted pieces photograph best. Press everything the night before and bring it on hangers.
What should actors wear for headshots?
Dress for the roles you're actually being called in for. Solid colours, no logos, nothing that pulls attention from your face. Bring a couple of options and we'll choose together in studio.
Do I need professional hair and makeup?
Usually not. Agencies and casting directors want to see what you look like at a go-see or an audition, so arrive the way you'd show up to one. Keep makeup light and natural.
What if I don't love my photos?
You see your images on the studio monitor before you leave and choose the ones you want. If none of them is the one, we book you back in and reshoot at no charge, or shoot a second session right then if we have the time.
How does the deposit work?
A $50 deposit holds your time when you book online, and it comes off your session total. The balance is due on the day of your session.
