1. Get a Good Night’s Sleep Before Your Headshot Session

A solid night’s rest helps reduce under-eye circles and leaves your skin looking refreshed. Being well-rested also helps you feel more relaxed and engaged on camera.

2. Wear Clothes That Reflect Your Personal Brand

Choose solid, well-fitting outfits that reflect your profession and personality. Avoid busy patterns or logos. If you're unsure, bring a couple of options—we’ll decide together during your headshot session at our Exchange District studio or your office.

3. Minimize Shine for a Polished Look

Studio lighting can highlight skin shine, so a light application of translucent powder can help. Not into makeup? That’s fine—I’ll guide you through small adjustments to keep things looking clean and professional.

4. Align Your Headshot With Your Brand Identity

Think about the message you want your headshot to send. Are you aiming for corporate professionalism, creative energy, or friendly approachability? We'll capture that during the session through expressions, posture, and wardrobe choices.

5. Bring Your Best Expression to the Camera

We'll take a variety of shots—smiling, serious, and somewhere in between—to capture the most authentic version of you. A relaxed subject makes for the best professional headshot.

6. Prep Your Hair and Grooming Ahead of Time

Schedule haircuts or grooming a few days in advance, not the day before. This allows any redness or irritation to fade. Beard trims, eyebrow touch-ups, and light hairstyling go a long way.

7. Stay Hydrated for Better Skin

Drinking water the day before and the day of your session can make a noticeable difference in your skin's clarity and energy levels.

8. Wearing Glasses? That’s Totally Fine.

If you wear glasses daily, wear them in your headshot. If you’d like both looks—with and without—just let me know. Remove them 15–20 minutes before your shoot to reduce marks on your nose.

9. Trust the Process and Enjoy the Experience

If you're nervous, you're not alone. I’ll guide you every step of the way so you don’t have to think about angles or posing. Just show up, and I’ll help you look confident, approachable, and professional.
